Yea That's Right I'm Still Here...

I know its been a while since my last update. It's really not my intention to complete ignore my blog I just haven't had much to update you all on. However I miss writing and there's always soemthing to say so here I go. First off while I generally avoid writing too much about hockey on here I wanna say that my boys are starting the postseason tonight. We're playing the Moncton Wildcats in the first round. Even though they have home ice advantage, I'm pretty confident the Moose can take this series. I had a pretty exciting weekend, headed to Moncton and Cape Breton to close out the regular season. 7 of us in one hotel room, 2 different cities in 3 days...haha lots of giggling, talking and goodtimes were had.

Yesterday, Eastlink had a big job fair and naturally Lee and I attended because we are both stuck in jobs we hate lol. As for job 'interveiws' it was pretty funny actually. The woman who spoke with me was a billet for the Truro Bearcats and not only understood my 'hockey in my passion' rant, she billets a guy I actually know. We had a good talk about it lol. Its always good when something like that happens at something as big as a job fair because it means you stick out. Pretty sure the whole thing went well and honestly I'd be surprised not to get a call for the more formal interveiw.

Also about a week ago everyone heard some good awesome news from Jay and Christine as it turns out I'm gonna be an Aunt again!! I'm so excited for you guys. I'm looking forward to having another niece or nephew to fuss over and spoil. Congats and I love you both!

As for the I pictures I promised last post I'm gonna post them underneth this post. There's something like 180 picture so I'll only post a couple but it you do wanna see more email me and I'll send them your way.

Alright well there my quick update. Hopefully the excitment will continue around here and I'll have something to write about.
Love,
Mana XOXO

One Roadtrip, A Thousand Stories...

So now that I've gotten some sleep I'm gonna tell everyone about the 5 day roady to Quebec. It's a long story so go grab something to drink and a snack first......*waiting*..... Now that you've done that sit back, relax, read, and try not to let the berverage you just got come out through your nose as you laugh at all the insane mini adventures we had on this trip.

Let's start with the setting : Myself, Nicole, Naomi and Elizabeth in Moms mini van just getting on the highway heading out of Halifax. Theres music blasting, it's oldies mostly, some songs that remind us of Mooseheads (of course) seriously it's songs that were used as goal songs for certain players. Example, King of my Castle for Jason King, Ring my Bell for Thatcher Bell, Burn Baby Burn for Marc Andre Bernier. See what I mean...yea I told ya you'd laugh and thats not even a funny part. Anyways it's about 5pm on Wed when we finally did get on the road. We knew there was a snow strom expected but Halifax was clear. In fact we drove til about Cobiquid pass til we saw snow. It got pretty bad, pretty quickly though. Naturally there wasnt a snow plow anywheres to be seen in Moncton. We were basicly following tracks of 18 wheelers. During a stop at a Timmys just outside of Moncton we found a lovely group of snow plow drivers, naturally just chilling in the Tim Hortons rather then actually doing any snow clearing! Other then that lil bunch of coffee drinking slackers we didnt see a plow until Edmonston, NB. Of course then we got stuck directly behind it. The blinding blinking lights and going 40km/hr oh yea thats a good way to stay awake driving all night in the middle of a raging blizzard. Nicole even video recorded some of it. Finally cross the Quebec border around 3am-ish. Just outside of Riviere Du Loup after all the coffee and such I needed a bathroom. Of course we are somewheres on the highway in the wee hours of the morning and theres no gas station or resturant to be seen or at least none thats open at 4am. I finally spotted one those truck/tourists stops...ya know its just a little building with payphones and bathrooms. Lots of picnic tables during the summer months and such. So I pull in and of course it hasn't been plowed AT ALL! Here I am driving through 2 feet of snow and hoping I'm actually on the road a bit. Its just a little loop so I figure I'm pretty good and it'll be easy to get back on the highway. So a few minutes later when we go to get back onto the highway imagine our surprise when theres a snow drift about 4 feet tall in front of us. No way can I plow my way through there in the van, not that I didnt try a couple of times of course. Finally we decide we'll have to back out the way we came, in the raging blizzard! So Nicole and Naomi get out to help push the van and Elizabeth is hanging out the sliding door directing me because I cant see a damn thing through the back window. It takes a few but we slowly start backing up. We get onto my orginal tracks and I speed up a little plowing my way backwards onto the highway. Poor Nicole and Naomi start jogging to keep up, we eventually get out though. The girls jump in and we start driving as Nicole and Naomi describe the howling they heard while outside pushing the van. Apparently they were running after us because they thought they heard wolves. Haha well that explained the retarded jog they were doing. Eventually we make it to Autoroute 20. I'd love to say it was smooth sailing from there in but of course it wasnt. An hour outside of Quebec city, still in the middle of this raging blizzard we get pulled off the highway. The cops shut down the 20 going both ways and we have to wait for it to clear up a bit. We're stuck at a truckers stop in St-Jean-Port-Joli. Us 4 girl and like 35 truck drivers, a couple of really nice guys and some creepy ones too. We stuck together in pairs to say the least. It wasnt just a few hours of delay. Nicole and Elizabeth even went out to play in the snow at one point. Everyone was digging out their cars/trucks every couple of hours. Except us beacuse we parked between the building and a 18wheeler...didnt have to even use the snow brush when we left. We got pulled off the highway just before 7am, we didnt get back on until 5pm. Just imagine us when Elizabeth translated for the cop that the 20 going west had opened. We flew outta there and the drivers were acutally waving goodbye and telling us to drive safe. It was pretty funny scene actually. We did get to Montreal and safely to Auntie Heathers around 9pm. Keep in mind its still pretty bad weather out. 29 hours since we had left Hali, I just wanted some sleep. Well first we ate and then we all got some much needed sleep. Friday we headed out to Drummondville for the game. Got ourselves a hotel room, grabbed tickets for the game and of course got our fix of St. Hubert. We lost the game but we ended up sitting with one of the players family. We had a good time despite the score. After some partying in our hotel room we basicly crashed for the night. Saturday morning headed back to Montreal. First stop was the Bell Center where I bought stuff for Ari and Zack. Nicole (whos a huge Habs fan) was in heaven. Of course we got lost a few times both getting there and finding our way back to the bridge. We then went back to Auntie Heathers for lunch. We were hoping to have Jeremy and Jay join us but Jay was working and Jer had plans for the evening. We met Mikes girlfriend, Kia, who is absolutlely stunning and a complete sweetheart. Just before supper Auntie Heather took us over to visit Nanny. She looked really good and she was happy, singing and funny too. It made me feel so much better to see her. She is living a basicly a seniors palace. Again we have pictures for everyone to see. After supper us girls plus Mike, Kia and Katie all went over to the island. Kia was dropped off at home and the rest of us had some time to kill before we met up with some friends so we got ourselves lost (a couple of times lol). We even went up to the top of Mont Royal at some point. We did meet up with our friends for coffee, which was a blast. Alex at Second Cup will never forget us haha. We are a loud and crazy bunch. We spent that night at Auntie Heathers again. Sunday was our last day in Quebec. We were getting ready to head to Shawinigan for the game when Dad called. I somehow the night before managed to lose my cell phone on St. Catherines street. Some guy found it and was willing to meet up with us to get it. The man of course only spoke french so Elizabeth had to talk to him and after almost an hour of getting lost we found the meeting spot and picked up my phone before heading out to Shawinigan. I should mention that getting lost wasnt really getting lost..it was more like there are way too many one way streets in Montreal. Its very confusing lol. We did make it to the game in Shawinigan. A coupleof minutes late because I missed the turn for the rink but we still made it lol. The boys got a win that afternoon, 7-2 the final. The game even included a line brawl when a former Moosehead and known goon jumped one of our boys. After the game, we grabbed McDonalds...of course we picked the one place half the Shawinigan team went to. Walked in with my jersey and well that brought some stares. Me being , well me enjoyed every moment of it. I wished I had thought to start chanting Go Moose Go while we left :D Yes I am a shit disturber and what LOL. The drive home was decent, well we got lost in Quebec city and had to back up of a busy highway (again!)to get to the only exit we had to take. Oh that was fun, when I say fun I mean scary lol. I was insanely tired and the girls kept me awake, well mostly Nicole kept me awake. Sang lots, anything from country to backstreet boys to hinder. Anything to stay wide awake. We stopped in Moncton for breakfast. I still had my jersey on so to make a point and well because I HATE the Wildcats I kept it on when we went into the subway, ate and driving through Moncton. In fact my jersey was still on when I got home. I didnt get home til almost 3pm despite rolling into town around 11am. I first had to drop off Nicole. Then I had to take Naomi and Elizabeth home. Once I was at Mom and Dads we all sat at the kitchen table drank coffee and told our story of the last 5 days. I gave Ari and Zack their gifts from the Habs store and after all that I headed home myself. I unpacked quickly, told Lee about the trip and went to bed. I woke up about 20minutes ago and I have every intention of going back to sleep when I'm done writing this. Anyways that was the roady. I think the title of the post fits well for this trip. There are some more stories, mostly about the games themselves, fell free to ask me about those when I wake up again lol.

Back in 1996...

Remember when you were a kid and it'd start snowing before you went to bed. I dont know about you guys but I could could of was ' YAY maybe the buses wouldn't be running in the morning'. Naturally the buses usually did run in the morning and we'd have to walk further out to the highway to catch the stupid yellow automoblie just to go to school. But there were those days when we didn't, when the buses were runnning or the whole school closed. Ya got to lay around in Pjs til noon and then put on layers and layers of clothes just to go play in the newly fallen snow. Those were the good days eh...when you could wake up and worry about nothing expect when new twisted way you were gonna slide down the hill. It wasn't that long ago that I was an 11 yr old kid with a pink snowsuit and crazy carpet. I miss it though. This morning I woke up to icy roads and a fresh blanket of snow. Instead of grabbing a sled I called work to see if there was work this morning. Then I realized I couldn't get there and had to call to say I'm be staying home unless I could get in later on this afternoon. 11 yrs ago I'd have no worries now I'm worried that the project we've been working on is gonna take an extra day and I'm missing a day of work I can't afford to miss. Screw partying like it was 1999 I wish I could party like it was 1996 LOL

22 candles...

..yea thats right 22 candles on the cake I didn't get. No worries though I wasn't anywheres where it would have been a good idea to have a cake. Heres a run down of my birthday. January 5th (for those brothers that didn't remember to call *cough cough Jer and Jay cough cough*) started out with at least a dozen friends killing my cell phone between midnight and 1am. Which is really sweet minus the fact that I was trying to sleep LOL. I did my usual work day 8 hours of working on a project i hate Grrr. By the time 5 o clock rolled around I couldn't wait to get outta there. Off to the Moose game we went. Now for those living in Ottawa and miss out on my moosehead rants, this is a rebuilding year us. Basicly what means is we're young and not execpted to go far in the post season. I am absolutely ok with this because we are totally stacked for next year and then we'll make a run for the Presidents Cup! So that being said the first period totally sucked...down 3-0 to our provincal rivals. Second period our captian, Ryan Seymour beats the snot outta Breton and all the sudden we have a game. A couple more fights gets some life into the boys early and at the second intermission it's 4-3 Eagles. Third period...at this point I'm thinking, hey boys showed a lot of character so far and no matter the turn out this is a good game for them. Always gotta keep in mind we're gonna take our licks this years but it's all gonna be worth it. So imagine the craziness when we tied it up, then went a head by a goal. Add an empty netter and it's a 6-4 final for the Mooseheads. Happy birthday to me eh! After the game half a dozen of us headed down to the Mercury for some drinks. A few more people met up with us there and some drinks turned in a lot of drinks HAHA. Then around 1am we walked up to the Palace, met up with even more friends and drank more. People started to bail around 2:30am An hour later when the bar closed it was me, Melanie, Kathy and Janet left of my birthday party. Mel and I grabbed a cab together cuz she only lives up the road from me. That poor cabby, he never wants to work a friday night after us I'm sure HAHA. After some interesting fun trying to get a glass of water my drunken self passed out on my bed. My birthday wasn't filled with presents and a cake but it had friends, family and a Moosehead win. Thats all I need to be happy.

2006 ends on a sad note

Yea, you probably guessed it right I partied hard and drank a bit (ok a lot) to bring in the new year. It was good fun for the most part. Unfortunetly new years eve before we even started to get ready for the downtown scene Nicole and Heidis' Grandmother called to let us know that her husband had passed away earlier that day. I had met Reggie last winter and for a man who was a P.O.W in Hong Kong he was incredibly sweet and fun loving. The stories he told weren't about war but about first falling in love with Heidis Nan when they were in high school. It's such a cute story, one day when you have time on your hands call me and I'll relay it to you. The LeBlancs are like family to me and my heart goes out to them.

Party like it's 2007

Hold on it almost is! Wow I can hardly believe it, where did the year go? It's been an eventful one that's for sure. I started out with some hospital visits in Jan and that turned instead a 3 month hiatus from work. When I did go back, of course it wasn't to Wendys. I also started the 2006 year with a broken heart, thankfully I had an awesome supporting cast made up of close friends and select family members (you know who you are) to help me through that. Took a while but thanks to them my heart mended just fine. Also in 2006 I took some critical steps towards my scouting career. More of course to be taken in 2007. I will work tirelessly until I achieve that dream. My 'pay the bills' job has changed from fast food to coffee house and now as pretty much settled at marketing research. In the past year I've made huge changes such as moving in with Lee and Jen. Something that was a temporary thing has turned into a long term thing (unless they go kicking me out LOL). Living with my big brother and sister in law has had a effect on me. It would be hard to explain but its great and I love the closer relationships I now have with all 4 of my newer room mates. This year has been a one of learning and maturity and not only in me. I've posted on here about Naomi and Elizabeth and all I can say now is wow. I love both of you so much and honestly no one could be prouder of how both of you have grown even in just a year. While not for me, the year even brought a baby. Watching Brooklyn grow over the last several months is too amazing to even put into words. Thank you so much Michelle and Jay for having me be such a big part of Brooklyns life. So much has happened this year I could go on for pages but even the ones I've already mentioned as you can see have a profound impact on a person. Amazing how in 12 months everything can change. I wanna wish all my family and friends a truly happy new year. I hope the 2007 brings all of you even more love, joy and fulfillment.
Love forever,
Mana xoxo

The Solomon Way

Our family has a slightly different way of doing things, unique and for the most part others just don't understand. I blame the Solomon genes. Which means while I can't avoid it, Jen, Kathrine, Christine and my mom have all made the choice to be sucked into this craziness LOL. These 'Solomon ways' include things like, more cream cheese then bagel, tuna sandwichs made just right with Cains mayo, jokes about Daddy and his favorite quote " What are you trying to do to me?!". The craziness continues with holiday jokes. The hannukah bush and Hannukah Harry are some of my favorites. We may be loud and annoying at times but really a very tight knit family. Our course putting the majority of us into a packed living room makes for even more craziness. To celebrate the last night of Hannukah, we all headed out to Dad and Moms. Of course there was the absence of Jer, Kathrine, Jacob, Jay and Christine, but with 2 provinces separating us thats just how it had to be :( There were however 15 people that did show. Heres a quick list of 'em. Dad, Mom, Lee, Jen, Me, Pat (Jens mom), David, April (Daves g/f) Josh, Michelle (Joshs..umm...best friend), Naomi, Beth, Jacinda, Ari, Jared and Zack. The living room was packed with people and gifts. As normal for Dad and Mom everything was running a little late. Finally, we got the frozen turkey in the oven and potatoes peeled and shreded, and the veggies ready for cooking. A beer in hand of all the adults ( expect jen who was the DD) we made sitting arangments so everyone could fit into the living room for present opening. Naomi handed out her gifts first and OMG she totally went all out. Lee and Jen handed out theres next, including a gag gift for me. A drinking game...tic tac toe with shooter glasses LOL. Then I did my gifts, Dave and April did thiers. Josh got his presents out and so did Michelle. Then came Dad and Mom. Now I wanna explain for the benefit of my Ottawa living siblings that I had known that everyone went in on a big gift for me. Of course I was excited and kept asking for it so naturally I got the very last present. Not only was it something I wanted. When I heard it had been sold I had basically bursted into tears. The big present was a game used jersey, not just any game used jersey though, a Marc-Andre Bernier game worn jersey! I totally freaked. When I asked Jill at Antlers who had bought it she told be some Cape Breton fan and I had been crushed that i missed my chance. Turns out almost EVERYONE knew about my big gift and helped keep it a secret. I'm pretty sure the whole frickin rink must have known. Either way AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME gift. Anyways I gotta grab a shower but we hit up the theater.
Love, Mana
xoxo
